Sustainable Farming

With pig nutrition and animal welfare at the forefront of their minds, Tim and Geoff Brosnan have turned their hands to growing commodities with the highest nutritional value possible.

A total of 2700 acres of cropping country does not fully supply the piggery meaning additional grains are sourced from select growers with premiums paid for certain varieties.

The Brosnans seasonally grow;

  • Wheat
  • Barley
  • Sorghum,
  • Chickpea &
  • Triticale

These crops are grown and harvested for the piggery and use very few synthetic fertilisers throughout the process.

Farming at BettaPork is based on ‘back to basics’ soil health with a focus on micro rather than macro nutrition.

Highly nutritious water separated into ponds from the on-farm biogas plant is a cornerstone to successful cropping at BettaPork, keeping production costs low and encouraging higher crop resilience through dry periods.

BettaPork is working towards ASP Certification under the requirements of sustainable farming and the family work tirelessly to ensure the highest standards of farming practice guarantee longevity.
